Samantha Faulder,

Address:
HMP/YOI Eastwood Park, Falfield Wotton-under Edge Gloucestershire GL128DB.

Sam Faulder is an anarchist prisoner currently serving a life sentence in England. Sam is a miscarriage of justice who has done over ten years in the prison system.

She has been an anti-authoritarian her whole life and was relentlessly targeted by police because of her lifestyle choices. After serving nearly two years on remand, Sam’s trial was a disaster. Police corruption impacted her trial and her solicitor firm withdrew from her case three weeks before it began. Her need to appeal coincided with cuts to legal-aid and she has been trapped in the prison system ever since. She is now working with Cardiff University’s Innocence Project on her appeal. Learn more about her case and appeal here: http://freedomforsam.org/about/

About Sam’s health: After ten years experiencing every abuse imaginable, Sam was sadly diagnosed with cancer in 2016. She has still not had treatment. She has experienced intense medical neglect while being imprisoned in a for-profit prison, HMP Peterborough, run by Sodexo. Read the full story of her cancer situation here: http://freedomforsam.org/sams-cancer-timeline/

Neurika “Taz” Baguley was given an indefinite sentence (DPP = detention for public protection) when she was fifteen years old. She’s now about to turn 28 years old and still inside, waiting for a parole board hearing that is yet to be scheduled. Like  3000 others on indefinite sentences,  Taz has served years over her original tariff. Because of the criminal “justice” system, she has spent her formative years in prison.

Justice for the Craigavon Two: Brendan McConville and John Paul Wootton were convicted for the killing of a PSNI Officer in the North of Ireland in 2012. The case has been supported as a miscarriage of justice by high profile campaigners, legal experts & human rights activists. The prosecution used discredited witnesses, inconclusive forensics, and tampered evidence to secure a conviction that does not stand up to scrutiny. Security services destroyed evidence, intimidated witnesses and defence lawyers.

Taylor Claire

Taylor is a trans prisoner serving an IPP sentence. He has served over 10 years in prison and has been through all the abuses the prison system can subject someone to.

IPP (Imprisonment for Public Protection) is a type of sentencing that was introduced in 2005 and meant that people would be sentenced to an initial ‘tariff’ (minimum time that must be served) and, after that point, their release would be decided by the parole board. This means that IPP prisoners have NO definite release date.

Valentin:
accused of having taken part in the violent clashes at „Verdener Eck“ after the football match between SV Werder Bremen and the HSV. That day Nazi Hooligans from Bremen attacked a group of antifascist Ultras. The clash ended in violent confrontations between the two groups. Even though the events took place after a football match, and football fans are affected, this is not about football riots! The altercation had a political background. The hooligans attacked the Ultras since they believed them to be left winged antifascists. Since his arrest Valentin is in custody awaiting trial. At a press conference on July 2nd the police presented him to be the „prime suspect“ in the case. He is accused of aggravated battery and severe breach of the peace (schwerer Landfriedensbruch). The police made clear that Valentin is going to be held as an example against political violence.

Scripta Manent operation
In the early hours of September 6, an operation coordinated by the Digos [political police] of Turin led the searches of 30 homes in various Italian regions (Piedmont, Liguria, Lazio, Umbria, Lombardy, Abruzzo, Campania, Sardinia and Emilia Romagna) and the arrest of five anarchist comrades accused of subversive association with terrorist intent; in addition, a notification in prison for Nicola Gai and Alfredo Cospito. The operation, called “Scripta Manent” [from Latin proverb “verba volant, scripta manent” — spoken words fly away, written words remain], tries to attribute to a single direction a series of direct actions claimed by the Informal Anarchist Organization, reproducing in this way thesame repressive strategies of some previous operations, such as Servantes and Boldness (“Ardire”), and trying to impose an associative and vertical structure on the expressions of anarchist conflictuality.
In particular, the attacks inserted in this investigation include the parcel-bombs sent to the CPT’s [detention centres for immigrants] director in Modena in May 2005, to the traffic-cops barracks in Torino-San Salvario and to the chief-police of Lecce (claimed by FAI/Narodnaja Volja), the explosive device against the RIS barracks [carabinieri forensics] in Parma (October 24, 2005, claimed by FAI/Cooperativa Artigiana Fuoco e Affini-occasionalmente spettacolare), the parcel-bomb sent to the Mayor of Bologna Sergio Cofferati (November 2, 2005, claimed by FAI/Cooperativa Artigiana Fuoco e Affini-occasionalmente spettacolare), the devices against the carabinieri cadets’ barracks in Fossano (June 2, 2006, claimed by FAI/RAT-Rivolta Anonima e Tremenda), the devices placed in the Turin neighbourhood, Crocetta (March 7, 2007, claimed by FAI/RAT); among the other actions also the  wounding of Adinolfi (May 7, 2012), despite the fact that two comrades have already been convicted and have publicly claimed this attack, to corroborate the crime of association. It seems that the investig
ators, felt the need to structure their clues, used even linguistic and graphology experts, in addition to electronic and computer surveillance, and tailing.
In April 2019, the court made its verdict. Alfredo was sentenced to 20 years.
Anna was sentenced to 17 years for the Crocetta and Fossano bombs (2006 and 2007) and for the explosive packets of July 2006 (the same three for which was sentenced Alfredo), as well as for a “subversive association with terrorist purposes” as promoter of the FAI.
Nicola was sentenced to 9 years for “subversive association with terrorist purposes”.
Marco and Sandro were sentenced to 5 years for participation in a “subversive association with terrorist purposes”.
All the other defendants were acquitted (for all 23 comrades the main charge was of “subversive association with the purpose of terrorism and subversion of the democratic order” and only for some comrades of “instigation to commit a crime” and “terrorist attack”).
Two more anarchists were released in April 2019 following their acquittal in the first degree trial.

UPDATE NOVEMBER 23 2020

On November 24, 2020 in the bunker room of the prison Le Vallette in
Turin was issued the sentence of appeal against 23 anarchists accused in
the trial «Scripta Manent». Waiting to be able to publish more
information and reflections, we inform that with regard to the comrades
convicted also in the first instance the sentence was as follows:

— Anna Beniamino: 16 years and 6 months (in first instance: 17 years).

— Alfredo Cospito: 20 years (as in first instance), in continuation with
the sentence of cassation at 9 years, 5 months and 10 days of the trial
for the action against Adinolfi.

— Nicola Gai: 1 year and 1 month (in first instance: 9 years), in
continuation with the sentence of cassation at 8 years, 8 months and 20
days of the trial for the action against Adinolfi.

— Alessandro Mercogliano: acquitted of all charges (in first instance: 5
years).
— Marco Bisesti: acquitted from the charge of «subversive association
with the purpose of terrorism and subversion of the democratic order»
(in first instance: 5 years), but sentenced to 1 year and 9 months for
«incitement to commit crimes» in relation to “Croce Nera Anarchica”
(“Anarchist Black Cross”).

The sentence for «subversive association with the purpose of terrorism
and subversion of the democratic order» has been confirmed for Anna,
Alfredo and Nicola.

Comrades Nicola Gai, Alessandro Mercogliano and Marco Bisesti have been
released.

Unlike the trial in the first instance, nine other sentences were also
issued to nine other comrades for «incitement to commit crimes».
Convictions related, in various ways, to the publication of “Croce Nera
Anarchica”, an aperiodic magazine and internet site, and the management
of some internet sites that had been charged in the trial. These
sentences vary between 2 years and 6 months and 1 year and 6 months. As
said, in addition to these sentences, Marco was also sentenced for
«instigation».

In addition to Alessandro, nine other anarchist comrades were acquitted
of all charges, including a comrade in prison since September 6, 2016
and released with acquittal in the first degree on April 24, 2019, and a
comrade in prison and then under house arrest during the same period,
also released with acquittal in the first degree. The other comrades
were free.

SPAIN

Gabriel Pombo da Silva,

C.P. Mansilla de las Mulas
Paraje Villahierro
Mansilla de las Mulas
24210 – León, SPAIN

Spanish insurrectionary anarchist and former long-term prisoner, who is best known for his book ‘Diario e ideario de un delincuente’ (Diary and ideology of a criminal; 2006) and his involvement in the so-called ‘Aachen 4 case’, has long been the target for the repressive forces of states across Europe. He is once again in prison following his detention on yet another international arrest warrant awaiting extradition to Spain.

Gabriel’s currently legal situation is as follows:

The Girona prosecutor’s office demands that Gabriel serve another 16 years following an interpretation of a non-existent penalty calculation, as they are attempting to deny the ‘principle de especialidad’ should have previously applied (one of the reasons why Gabriel’s release was possible in June 2016). This must also be claimed and reiterated by Germany at the request of Portugal if deemed appropriate.
Extradition remains frozen while Portugal analyzes the situation, questions Germany about the ‘principle de especialidad’ and determines the situation in order to grant extradition or not.
The objective of the defence is immediate release thanks to the recognition of the same ‘principle de especialidad’
If this is not achieved, the goal would be to avoid extradition and to ensure that he would serve his supposed residual sentence in Portugal, avoiding the persecution he would undergo in Spanish prisons.
In the event of extradition, we would fight so that this sentence is not served, by the application of reduced sentences and mergers of different sentences, which has never happened until now (this could happen even if he is imprisoned in Portugal).
In any case, it is necessary to work via legal avenues so that no power of attorney can reopen any previous lawsuit and make any possible arrest warrant vain.

Given that Gabriel’s legal case will include the need for legal representation in both Spain and Portugal, and in all likelihood Germany too, his legal expenses will be high. A bank account has been opened, on behalf of his partner Elisa, so that he can receive solidarity contributions in the quickest, direct and most organised means possible.

UPDATE: Gabriel was handed over to the Spanish authorities on May 12th and is currently in prison in Badajoz (Extremadura) under the FIES 5 regime, created for prisoners with «special characteristics» [e.g. international crime, gender violence or with racist or xenophobic character, very serious crimes that have caused great social alarm, Islamist terrorism, radical fanaticism related to terrorist ideology, ect.] and has been given the 2nd degree (previously he could access prison benefits, enjoy permits and even probation), and the intervention of all communications (letters are opened and read, visits are recorded).

Rodrigo Lanza.

On September 23, 2020 Chilean anarchist and member of the Zaragozan anarchist squatter scene Rodrigo Lanza was sentenced to 20 years in prison for the aggravated murder of Víctor Laínez, 55, after beating him on December 8, 2017 in Zaragoza.
Rodrigo had previously been sentenced to five years in prison on November 26, 2019 for reckless manslaughter but that sentence was set aside in April 2020 by the Superior Court of Justice of Aragon, which ordered a repeat trial.
The latest sentence came a week after the court found the Chilean guilty of murder with the aggravation of ideological hatred. Judge María José Gil Corredera was inclined to grant him the lowest sentence requested by the parties. He will have to serve at least 2/3 of his sentence before being considered for release, and since he had already been in custody for three years, this will mean he will have to serve at least twelve years in prison. After his hunger strike for 33 days on June 2015 he took vegan food supplies one step further and he gained the right to get vegan food from outside the prisons. The prison administration usurped this gain due to arbitrarily reasons. Osman Evcan continues his indefinite hunger strike since 10 November 2015.

Two years ago she and her partner Dmitry Tsybukovski were detained and tortured them but couldn’t prove the case and it was closed. Later the police reopened the case on new charges.

Azat Miftakhov
Anarchist Azat Miftakhov was detained by law enforcement officers on the morning of February 1, 2019 on suspicion of making explosives. He was held for twenty-four hours at the Balashikha police station, where law enforcement officers tortured him, demanding that he make a full confession. Only on the evening of February 2 was Miftakhov officially detained and sent to the Balashikha Temporary Detention Facility.
On February 4, however, a court refused to remand him in custody due to a lack of evidence. Over the next three days, police investigators were unable to muster any evidence against Miftakhov, and so, on February 6, he was released from the temporary detention facility without charge.
As Miftakhov was leaving the detention facility, he was detained by men in plain clothes and taken to the Interior Ministry’s headquarters for Moscow’s Northern Administrative Division, where he was told he had been detained in another case, an investigation of alleged disorderly conduct outside the United Russia office in Khovrino on January 13, 2018. An investigation into vandalism had been opened in January 2018, but Russian law does not stipulate remanding vandalism suspects in custody during investigations. Miftakhov denies the charges against him. He believes he has been framed because of his anarchist views.

Juan Flores
Juan Flores is serving a sentence of 23 years, having been convicted by the Chilean state for incendiary attacks in 2014 claimed by the Conspiracy Cells of Fire & International Conspiracy of Revenge. On July 23, 2014 a CCF cell bombed “The Dominicans” station of the Santiago Metro, and on September 8, 2014 a shopping mall in Las Condes. In both instances, measures were taken to ensure the bombs  would not hurt anyone, but in the former a bag containing the bomb was moved by a Metro employee, and in the latter the police ignored a warning call the CCF cell made 10 minutes before the bomb was set to go off. As a result, the attacks ended up injuring people, so the Chilean state was able to claim they were meant to terrorize the population, and used an anti-terrorism law to obtain maximum sentencing on March 15, 2018 after proclaiming Juan guilty of both attacks. Two other comrades, Nataly Casanova and Enrique Guzman, were initially charged alongside Juan, but after over three years of imprisonment and criminal proceedings were found not guilty on all counts.

Dallas 6: After guards tortured fellow prisoner Isaac Sanchez in the torture chair overnight and threatened several Dallas 6 members with death, inmates Andre Jacobs, Carrington Keys, Duane Peter, Derrick Stanley, Anthony Locke and Anthony Kelly felt they could no longer suffer. Covering their cell door windows with bedding, the prisoners demanded that the abuse stop and requested access to their counsellors, state police, the District Attorney and the Public Defenders’ Office. They had no access to telephones or computers and their incoming and outgoing mail were being destroyed to undermine their ability to expose the corruption. In response, prison officials staged an armed assault against the unarmed men, who were all locked inside of their individual cells, viciously attacking them with electro-shock shields, tasers, their fists, and pepper-spray. While all of the guards involved in the incident admitted that they did not suffer any injuries, members of the Dallas 6 were left bloody, naked, with burnt skin and in pain. Following the assaults, hundreds of documents were generated, including specific claims of misconduct alleged against the Dallas 6. Not once was the word ‘riot’ mentioned. Four months later, after civil actions and other complaints were filed against prison guards and officials regarding the events, the prison, state police, and the Luzerne County District Attorney’s Office formed an alliance to bring criminal charges against the Dallas 6, now calling the incident a “riot”.

Veronza Bowers: was a member of the Black Panther Party and was convicted of the murder of a US Park Ranger, on the basis of two government informants’ testimonies, both of whom received reduced sentences for other crimes by the federal prosecutor’s office. There were no eye-witnesses and no evidence independent of these informants to link him to the crime. At his trial, Veronza offered an alibi in his testimony, which was not credited by the jury. Nor were the testimonies of two relatives of the informants who insisted that they were lying. The informants had all charges against them in this case dropped and one was given $10,000 by the government, according to the prosecutor’s post-sentencing report. Veronza has consistently proclaimed his innocence of the crime he never committed, even at the expense of having his appeals for parole denied, for which an admission of guilt is virtually required.
